About

Maple Haven Animal Shelter was created to give rescued animals a calm place to recover, and to help local families and individuals find companions who fit their home and routine. Each day, the team focuses on feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and gentle socialization, while also answering questions from adopters and foster volunteers across Vancouver and nearby communities. We take time to learn each animal's habits and needs so we can make thoughtful matches, not rushed placements. When a pet is ready, we guide people through adoption or fostering with clear, practical support. The work stays grounded in patience, care, and the belief that every animal deserves a safe next step.

How we work

From first message to the job

  • 1
Review available animals and adoption goals

We begin by checking the shelter's current animals, their temperaments, and any special care needs. Staff and visitors can then focus on pets that fit their home, lifestyle, and experience level.

  • 2
Complete the adoption inquiry and meet the animal

Next, the adoption inquiry is collected so the team can understand preferences, household details, and any other pets at home. A calm meet-and-greet follows, giving both the animal and adopter time to interact in a low-pressure setting.

  • 3
Discuss care needs and finalize the match

Once there is a good fit, the shelter walks through feeding, behaviour notes, vaccination details, and any follow-up care. This helps adopters feel prepared for the transition and gives the animal a smoother start in its new home.

  • 4
Finish paperwork and plan the home transition

After the adoption agreement is signed, the team reviews pickup timing, supplies, and any first-day guidance. The shelter stays available for basic post-adoption questions so the handoff feels organized and supported.

FAQ

Common questions

What adoption services does Maple Haven Animal Shelter include?

Maple Haven Animal Shelter helps match animals with suitable homes through an adoption process that includes meet-and-greets, adoption guidance, and basic screening. The shelter also shares information about each animal’s personality, care needs, and any known routines so adopters can make a thoughtful choice.

What is included when I visit the shelter to learn about adoption?

A visit typically includes time to meet available animals, ask questions about temperament and daily care, and review the adoption steps for a specific pet. Staff can also explain what support is available before and after adoption, such as guidance on settling a new animal into your home and understanding the shelter’s intake and placement process.

How are adoption fees at Maple Haven Animal Shelter usually set?

Adoption fees are typically based on the animal’s age, species, and any veterinary care already provided while in our shelter. The fee usually helps cover practical costs such as vaccinations, spaying or neutering, microchipping, and routine health checks.

Can the final cost change after I ask for a quote?

Yes, the final cost can change if an animal needs extra medical treatment, special behaviour support, or other care before adoption. We can explain what is included in the quote and note any factors that may affect the total, so there are no surprises later.
